BREAKING: 1,200 Detainees Missing From ICE’s Alligator Alcatraz Facility
Sep 24 | Families and lawyers say they can’t locate loved ones as detainees vanish from ICE’s public database.
Nearly two-thirds of the roughly 1,800 migrants held at the Alligator Alcatraz detention center in Florida in July are no longer traceable in ICE’s online database, according to reporting from the Miami Herald and Democracy Now.
About 800 detainees have completely disappeared from the system, while another 450 are listed only with a message instructing people to “call ICE for details.”

Families and lawyers say they have no way of confirming whether those individuals have been deported, transferred, or detained elsewhere, raising alarm about accountability.
The $2 billion facility, nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz,” has faced legal challenges since opening this summer, with a federal judge previously ordering its closure before an appeals panel allowed operations to continue.
Mass disappearance from ICE’s tracking system is unprecedented and leaves vulnerable migrants in a legal black hole.
