BREAKING: Outrage Grows Over Trump’s Appointment of 22-Year-Old to Lead Key Counterterrorism Office
Concerns are mounting after President Trump appointed 22-year-old Thomas Fugate to run the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3)—a major federal office responsible for combating domestic terrorism and targeted violence.

According to San Antonio Express-News and MySanAntonio, Fugate, who graduated college just last year, has no prior national security experience. His résumé includes work as a landscaper, grocery clerk, and political intern. He replaces Army veteran Bill Braniff, a seasoned counterterrorism expert who resigned after Trump’s DHS gutted the office.
Critics, including members of Congress and former DHS officials, are calling the move “reckless” and politically motivated. “You don’t put an intern in charge of terrorism prevention,” one former official told the press. DHS, however, defends the appointment, calling CP3 previously “overblown” and touting Fugate’s academic record and work ethic.
The appointment comes as the U.S. faces heightened threats following the Iran conflict—making the decision all the more alarming for those warning of weakened federal preparedness.
