In response, the U.S. has deployed additional forces, carriers, refueling aircraft, and missile defense systems.
Two aircraft carriers, the USS Carl Vinson and the USS Nimitz, are now stationed in the Arabian Sea. More than 30 refueling jets have been moved into Europe to extend U.S. reach in the region. This was confirmed by Reuters.
The USS Thomas Hudner and other destroyers are being repositioned. Missile defense systems like THAAD and Patriot have helped intercept Iranian missiles targeting Israel, according to Business Insider.
U.S. troop levels have risen to over 40,000. Non-essential embassy staff in Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain have been told to leave.
The White House says the deployments are defensive. Iran has warned that American bases may be targeted if the U.S. continues supporting Israel.
Senator Tim Kaine has introduced a resolution requiring Congress to approve any military action against Iran. A similar resolution passed in 2020 but was vetoed. You can read more through Reuters legislative reporting.
